Black Pepper Beef Stir-Fry
A bold and savory classic, this Black Pepper Beef Stir-Fry is a quick and satisfying dish packed with tender beef, colorful veggies, and a peppery, umami-rich sauce that hits all the right notes!
Ingredients:
1 lb flank steak, cut into cubes
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 tsp coarse black pepper (adjust to taste)
3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp cornstarch (for slurry)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp oil (for frying)
Instructions:
- Marinate the Beef:
In a bowl, toss the beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and cornstarch. Let it sit for about 15 minutes — this gives the beef that silky, restaurant-style texture and helps lock in flavor. - Prepare the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, and coarse black pepper. Set aside — this sauce is the bold heart of your stir-fry. - Sear the Beef:
Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned on all sides, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside. - Sauté the Aromatics and Veggies:
In the same pan, add a touch more oil if needed. Sauté garlic for 30 seconds until fragrant, then add chopped onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until just tender but still crisp — you want that fresh crunch! - Combine & Finish:
Return the cooked beef to the pan. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir to coat everything evenly. Let it cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy. - Serve Hot:
Spoon the stir-fry over a bed of fluffy jasmine rice or toss it with noodles for a heartier option. Garnish with extra cracked pepper or green onions if desired.
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Serves: 3–4
Chef’s Note: For a little heat, add a pinch of red chili flakes or sliced Thai chili. Want to keep it low-carb? Serve with cauliflower rice or in lettuce wraps.
