🍍🔥 Hawaiian Huli Huli Chicken
Sweet, smoky, and straight off a Hawaiian grill — this Huli Huli Chicken is your passport to paradise.
If you’ve ever wandered the roads of Oahu and caught a whiff of juicy chicken grilling over open flames, chances are it was Huli Huli Chicken. This iconic Hawaiian dish is known for its bold, sticky-sweet glaze made from pineapple juice, soy sauce, and garlic — and it’s shockingly easy to make at home!
🛒 Ingredients (Serves 6)
- 1 cup teriyaki sauce
- ½ cup pineapple juice 🍍
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 garlic cloves, minced 🧄
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs or drumsticks 🍗
- Chopped green onions & sesame seeds (for garnish)
🔥 Instructions
1. Make the Marinade:
In a medium bowl, whisk together teriyaki sauce, pineapple juice, brown sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. This marinade is the magic behind that signature sticky glaze!
2. Marinate the Chicken:
Place the chicken in a large zip-top bag or bowl and pour in the marinade. Seal and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight for the best flavor).
3. Grill It Up:
Preheat your grill to medium heat. Remove chicken from the marinade and set the marinade aside. Grill chicken for 6–8 minutes per side, basting frequently with the reserved marinade.
4. Finish with a Glaze:
Bring the leftover marinade to a boil in a small saucepan and simmer for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened. Brush over the chicken during the final minutes of grilling.
5. Serve and Garnish:
Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot with coconut rice, grilled pineapple slices, or a fresh island salad.
