Ground Beef & Chopped Cabbage Skillet
A simple, hearty, one pan meal made with tender cabbage, juicy ground beef, and bold spices perfect for busy weeknights!
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 small green cabbage, chopped
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp bouillon powder (beef or vegetable)
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to heat preference)
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
1️⃣ Brown the Beef
In a large skillet or cast-iron pan over medium heat, add ground beef.
Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until fully browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
2️⃣ Sauté Aromatics
Push the beef to one side of the skillet. Add chopped onions and garlic to the other side. Sauté until onions are soft and fragrant (about 2–3 minutes).
3️⃣ Add Tomatoes & Spices
Pour in the diced tomatoes along with bouillon powder, cumin, cayenne, smoked paprika, and salt.
Stir everything together and bring to a gentle boil. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to deepen the flavors.
4️⃣ Cook the Cabbage
Add the chopped cabbage into the skillet. Stir well to combine.
Cover the pan with a lid and let the cabbage steam and soften, about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5️⃣ Final Touches
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot — perfect on its own or with a side of rice, crusty bread, or even over mashed potatoes!
